Tweedy: Super Bowl LX, Bad Bunny and the Left’s Attack on American Exceptionalism
While Americans gathered to watch Super Bowl LX, we got an unexpected glimpse into the latest effort by the woke Left – via the Bad Bunny Half Time Show – and it’s not what you think.
Yes, we saw the virtue signaling with the “love is more powerful than hate,” but, that’s nothing new from the NFL. It has pushed slogans down our throat for years especially when supporting BLM.
We saw the whole “diversity” and “unity” push which isn’t a surprise, although Super Bowl half time shows have been far from diverse in recent years.
It’s mainly been an “anything but white” show under the leadership of rap artist Jay-Z, who is the NFL’s “Live Music Strategist.” That title alone should tell you this is more than just about the music and show.
Underneath those blaring themes was a more sinister revelation, but one that isn’t totally new. Honestly, I’m surprised more haven’t mentioned it.
For a while now, the woke Left has been trying to undermine and play down what is seen as “American Exceptionalism.” We’ve seen it in how the focus is constantly on grievance and focusing on the negatives of our past, not the greatness that outweighs the bad.
We’ve seen it in education where kids are taught that America is racist, that America is stolen land, and that we’re no better than the next country. True history, of course, speaks very differently.
Liberals bow to the altar of globalism and with that the cult of diversity and inclusion. The Left has to play down America’s greatness to make that work.
That’s why you see the Left constantly apologizing for America, white liberals apologizing for their own race, why the focus at educational institutions is on the negatives of our past not all the good America has done, and even re-writing history itself to fit their narrative.
A recent example is the argument that the US is stolen land. Do you ever hear these same people mention the Spanish and Mexicans stole land from Native Americans? How about the fact that black slaves were sold by their own people to Europeans? You won’t because that doesn’t fit their narrative agenda.
The latest chapter in this woke saga we saw at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
America, as in the United States, isn’t really the true America, they told us. The countries of South America, Central America, Mexico and Canada, along with the United States are all America!
We saw Bad Bunny marching with a slew of flags behind him representing this united America with the sign about “love over hate” on the big screen and holding a football that said, “Together we are America.”
It was a great show of virtue signaling but one with a much greater and alarming purpose.
It’s another way to downplay American Exceptionalism and make us just the same as everyone else, as when that happens, you weaken America and its influence – and what better place to do this than during one of the largest traditions in the U.S.
Sadly, as usual, the facts don’t match the liberal argument. If we are all the same, why is it that the U.S. border is where people are lined up to get in? Why does the United States have an illegal immigrant problem, if we are all just the same? Why don’t we see people running down south to these other “American” countries?
The United States is not only the world’s only superpower, there has never been another Nation like it.
It is “The shining city on a hill,” founded on liberty and the belief that “all men are created equal and, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Liberals have already tried to undermine the “pursuit of happiness” by replacing it with equity. While every country has a right to be prideful and has its own good and bad characteristics, none match the history, the greatness, and positive impact the United States has had on the world.
Meanwhile, south of the U.S. you have many third world countries and some who are just a notch above that. Even a developed industrialized Democracy like Canada depends on the U.S. for much of its protection.
The Left has once again found another way to degrade the U.S. and make our country less exceptional while wrapping it in a pretty cover of virtue signaling that may sound sweet but is not truth.
Then again, the Left doesn’t care much about truth if they can gain from it.
There were a number of issues with the Super Bowl Half Time show, from it being totally in Spanish in a majority English speaking country, featuring an artist whose lyrics are X-rated and who’s performance was not appropriate for what should be family friendly programming.
But the key in this all was politics and a Leftist agenda.
Some will claim it’s just entertainment, to lighten up, but we have seen too many times to count how media and entertainment has influenced culture and even politics. In fact, it’s the easiest way to influence people.
Put the politics and the message in a flashy show and people will be sucked in by the spectacle and not even notice the indoctrination going on. Some will claim that kids can’t understand the lyrics as they are in Spanish, but in a day and age where many parents unfortunately allow their young kids to sit in front of screens way too often, being able to access info that is not age appropriate even with so called “parental controls,” you think your kids can’t learn what these songs are about?
Using a Puerto Rican star isn’t a coincidence either. It’s a dream of liberals to make Puerto Rico a U.S. State – a country with major issues, violent crime especially cartel and drug related, major debt, 40% living in poverty, but a majority of people who will vote Democrat.
While a territory of the U.S., Puerto Rico is not the same level as a State. After that performance, you would think differently. There was a time when Puerto Rico wanted their independence but now, they’d rather be a State and it’s no surprise as to why with what they can gain from the U.S. This is all strategic.
The themes beyond the sexual that Bad Bunny talks about in his music such as colonialism, protest and basically fighting against those in power and the white man, all fit the Left narrative along with his views on the LGBTQ+ community and blurring the lines of gender just like he’s trying to blur the lines of sovereign Nations which are not all equal no matter the theatrics on stage.
Of course, the media is all on board with the agenda. I was horrified when I saw a tweet released on Elmo’s X account. Yes, the red furry character beloved by children on the “educational” TV show “Sesame Street.” Elmo stated “That Bunny was Amazing! Elmo thinks he should be called Good Bunny! Elmo loves Mr. Good Bunny.”
Why is a child’s character talking about an artist whose lyrics include the following:
Tití Me Preguntó” (My Auntie Asked Me”), which is an ode to promiscuity, includes “let the ones I already f–ked smile” and brags about girl who “came by plane” from Barcelona and says his “d–k is fire.” The chorus proclaims, “Today I have one, tomorrow I’ll have another, hey, but there’s no wedding.”
On the song “Monaco” – Bad Bunny raps, (translation) “You don’t know what it’s like to be on the high seas with two hundred girls.” “When the flight attendant goes down on you in the sky.”
In “EoO” – Bad Bunny croons (translated) “I go down on her and she gets happy,” referencing a sexual act.
Any parent who thinks exposing their kid to this kind of music and the risqué dancing performed on stage at the Half Time Show is ok, should have their head, and their parenting skills, examined. This goes to the sexualization of kids, which sadly is another theme we see on the Left especially with Hollywood.
So, while some may say it’s just a show, it’s just entertainment, or fall for the feel-good fluff of virtue signaling, there is much more to worry about under the surface.
As the saying popularized by Andrew Breitbart goes, “Politics is downstream from culture” and we should be alerted by what we are seeing.
This is the way of the Democrats, who aren’t just putting on a show but influencing the direction of our country and our lives, especially influencing the youngest amongst us. Their path continues to be one of reverse racism, a society of grievance, the weakening of America, and a dangerous form of globalism, all of which we must fight in order to keep the country our Founders created and American values and ideals many men and women fought and died to protect.
