Beware CA Thought Police on the Rise
The California Legislature is voting on Senate Bill 219 authored by avowed LGBTQIA leftist Sen. Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco) to fine and imprison you if you misidentify transgender persons. It already passed the California State Senate along party lines, was passed by the Assembly Judiciary and Appropriations Committees, and could be voted on by the entire Assembly soon.
The bill’s language currently limits the “misgendering” punishments to nursing homes and elder care facilities, but the left is notorious for incrementalism, and many say it will not stop at elderly transgender persons. “According to First Amendment scholar Eugene Volokh, it is ‘pretty unlikely that, if this law is enacted, such prohibitions would be limited just to this [nursing home] scenario,’” National Review reported. “The focus on nursing homes, one suspects, was chosen not because there is an epidemic of elderly transgender people being ‘misgendered’ by their caretakers, but simply because the elderly make for a particularly sympathetic test case.”
Weiner’s bill claims to seek “to protect the rights of LGBT seniors in long-term care facilities — including skilled nursing and assisted living facilities — and to prevent those facilities from discriminating against them.”
Picture this: the California Legislature is threatening jail time for anyone who refuses to use a transgender person’s preferred pronoun. Yet the list of gender pronouns is growing faster than I can write.
As for “misgendering,” while it’s clear I am female, I’ve been called every name in the Leftist Lexicon: hater, bigot, racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, transphobic.… and all for daring to challenge the new “reality” of the left, which is no reality at all. The Left wants life without rules, morals, or responsibility, which makes them moral Nihilists.
The “LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER Resource Center” at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee explains gender pronouns:
“A gender neutral or gender inclusive pronoun is a pronoun which does not associate a gender with the individual who is being discussed.
Some languages, such as English, do not have a gender neutral or third gender pronoun available, and this has been criticized, since in many instances, writers, speakers, etc. use “he/his” when referring to a generic individual in the third person. Also, the dichotomy of “he and she” in English does not leave room for other gender identities, which is a source of frustration to the transgender and gender queer communities.”
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual Resource Center has a helpful list of “general social justice terms,” which they describe as “ever-evolving and changing and often mean different things to different people.”
In other words, you’ll never get the pronoun right if the left doesn’t want you to.
I actually had to look up the concept of other ‘gender pronouns’ besides “he” and “she” because when I grew up in the radical 1960’s and hip 1970’s, there were men and women, boys and girls, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts and uncles, and we politely referred to men as “Mr.” and women as “Mrs.” or “Miss”…using the two genders.
In fact, Title lX was passed in 1972, which opened the door for girls to play organized sports, among other rights. I was in 5th grade and athletic and thrilled to be able to join a soccer team. But why bother with Title lX now? Today, anyone wearing the other genders’ clothing can join an athletic team.
Square this with the first grader at a Rocklin, CA charter school who was sent to the principal’s office in August after she “misgendered” a classmate in what’s being called a “pronoun mishap.”
A 6-year-old first grader.
The kindergarten teacher at Rocklin Academy Charter School led a class discussion on transgenderism, read from the trans book “I Am Jazz,” and then assisted the transgender child in a “gender reveal” where a little boy who was apparently “transitioning” to a little girl, change his “boy” clothes” to “girl” clothes… in front of the class full of 5-year-old children.
This was a 5-year-old kindergartner. Do you think this child’s parents had a little something to do with this?
All hell broke loose when the all of the students’ parents found out about this. When I was in kindergarten, and even when my son was in kindergarten, teachers taught the ABC’s and how to tie our shoes. Kindergarten teachers read to us Fun With Dick and Jane, and to my son’s class, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
“This innocent little first grader sees a classmate, calls him by the name she knew him last year and the boy reports it to a teacher,” Capitol Resource Institute’s Karen England reported. “The little girl gets in trouble on the playground and then gets called out of class to the principal’s office.”
The little girl’s mother, who asked not to be identified, immediately contacted the school to find out what had happened. “She was told that whenever there is a pronoun mishap with this biological boy who now claims to be a girl — the school must investigate,” England said.
So this was a “pronoun mishap.” Think about that. Do kindergarteners even know what a pronoun is? The answer is obvious and this incident is absurd. And the only reason the kindergarten teacher thought that it was acceptable to allow the “gender reveal” is because the California Legislature has been passing these policies and teachers are buying in to the insanity.
Only a few years ago any child who claimed to have gender identity issues was immediately taken to a psychologist by his or her parents for analysis and professional help. It was only in 2012 that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders did away with labeling transgender people as “disordered,” and reclassified them with the new term, “Gender Dysphoria.”
The left is reducing gender to absurd stereotypes. The Rocklin kindergarten teacher read to her class from the book, “I am Jazz,” in which the transgender boy child identifies his/her favorite color as pink. “From the time she was two years old, Jazz knew that she had a girl’s brain in a boy’s bod,” the book description says. “She loved pink and dressing up as a mermaid and didn’t feel like herself in boys’ clothing. This confused her family, until they took her to a doctor who said that Jazz was transgender and that she was born that way.”
Because everyone knows that only girls love the color pink.
Except me. I hated pink. I refused to wear pink anything until I was 40.
The Liberty Council has addressed teachers reading this book to young children:
“First, as you may know, ‘Jazz” Jennings is a male child ‘transgende’” activist, who has been permitted to undergo harmful gender reassignment drug therapy and hormone blockers, resulting in permanent physical changes to his body. The book is a false and misleading book, and the subsequent teaching and discussion will result in the following harms:
1. Promoting non-factual, radical, and controversial assumptions about “gender”–which is neither the right nor business of government schools to do;
2. substituting the beliefs of the principal, school psychologist, and school counselor for those of parents;
3. necessitating many parents teaching their children about a psychological and moral disorder about which they believe their children are too young to learn;
4. making other children uncomfortable;
5. confusing many children;
6. disturbing children who will now falsely believe that one can choose one’s gender; and
7. undermining modesty and privacy rights of students;
8. undermining the religious free exercise and free speech rights of teachers and students in relation to incorrect pronouns.”
One of the first things we learn as children is our gender, based on biology. The left thinks it is normalizing LGBTQIA and gender disorders, but really it is legislating dishonesty through false analogies and claims that children are arbitrarily “assigned” a gender at birth. And the left is deceiving our children, whom they look at as living social experiments.
